Cabo Verde

True, the archipelago of Cape Verde atracts an increasing number of tourists today. Islands like Boavista, Sal and Maio offer spectacular beaches not crowded with monster hotels known from Spain, Italy or Turkey. They can boast of sunshine any time of the year. Apart from that the islands are bone dry, sandy, and rocky with little vegetation. To escape the poverty masses of Capverdians abandoned the islands and settled in America, Portugal and other European countries. From there they can support their families back at home. The islanders, nonetheless, have found a way to deal with their lot. Music and dance are the trademark of the islands today. Music rules the life, songs offer relief, dance compensates for the hard labour. It was music that kept me coming to Cape Verde for several years, music and dance were felt to be everywhere and stepped into my photography before I fully realised it. Music is visible in Cape Verde, it stretches everywhere, touching the young and the old with little difference. It and the people’s amiability make you come to the islands again and again.
